For Snøhetta the inclusion of artwork into the project from the earliest conceptual phases of the design is of great importance. The development of an artistic expression in conjunction with an artist or artists allows for contextual attitudes and ideas to become an integral aspect of the design. The choice of building materials is affected by what is natural for the individual project on the specific site, and this in turn assists in the choice of artist and technique for the project. The final expression should feel inevitable for the project and to anyone who views the project. |

Snøhetta coordinated the use of over 65,000 square feet of hand-carved granite with artisans and stone masons. Full scale mock-ups were made to demonstrate the character of the finished design and to ensure a high quality of
work, Snøhetta coordinated workshops for quarry agents from both Egypt and Norway.
