About This Event

The mission of NCSU's Data Science Initiative is to institutionalize Data Science across all disciplines on campus.  The Office of Information Technology (OIT)’s complementary challenge is to make it accessible to the NCSU community as a shared resource.  We’ll talk about why typical High-Performance Computing (HPC) users need Big Data tools (like iRODS), and how Big Data projects could benefit from HPC tools (like Distributed Computing and Message Passing Interface).  The discussion will be in the context of the NCSU experience- where the mature HPC and Virtual Computing Laboratory environments were extended to provide OIT’s Big Data infrastructure.
