Making Space - Empowering Makers with Danielle Applestone, CEO of Bantam Tools

Join Danielle Applestone PhD, CEO of Bantam Tools as she shares stories of her path from childhood in rural Arkansas to MIT to Silicon Valley hardware startup founder/CEO through the acquisition of her company (formrly Other Machine Co.) earlier this year. Come with questions about anything you might want to know about being an engineer, having a kid, running a business, or how to choose the path that's right for you. Her talk and the Q&A will be followed up with a demo of prototyping metal parts and PCBs with the desktop milling machine her company manufactures.

ABOUT DANIELLE APPLESTONE
Danielle Applestone is CEO and co-founder of Other Machine Co., now Bantam Tools, a Berkeley-based, leading manufacturer of desktop CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machines. Formerly, Danielle ran a U.S. Government Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) project to develop digital design software and manufacturing tools for the classroom. Danielle’s team took their technology and launched Other Machine Co. in 2013. Her company was then acquired by former Makerbot CEO and co-founder, Bre Pettis in early 2017. Danielle is passionate about STEM education for women and girls, fostering work-based apprenticeship programs, and encouraging the development of businesses that provide relevant and meaningful mentorship for the future workforce. Danielle received her B.S. in chemical engineering from MIT in 2002 and a PhD in materials science and engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012. She is a member of the 2016 Class of Henry Crown Fellows and the Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute.
