Making Space - Dark Patterns VR with Caroline Sinders and Mani Nilchiani

Caroline Sinders and Mani Nilchiani will discuss their work on Dark Patterns -- a web VR interactive narrative of surveillance and privacy in a near-future scenario. The game imagines what the future of IOT devices and UX will look like, what internet regulation looks like to a user, and what the future of protest can be.

About Caroline Sinders

Caroline Sinders is a machine learning design researcher and artist. For the past few years, she has been focusing on the intersections of natural language processing, artificial intelligence, abuse, online harassment and politics in digital, conversational spaces. Caroline is a designer and researcher at the Wikimedia Foundation, and a Creative Dissent fellow with YBCA. She has held fellowships with Eyebeam, the Studio for Creative Inquiry and the International Center of Photography. Her work has been featured at MoMA PS1, the Houston Center for Contemporary Art, Slate, Quartz, the Channels Biennale, as well as others. Caroline holds a masters from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program. 

About Mani Nilchiani

Mani Nilchiani is an artist, programmer and musician from Tehran, Iran who lives and works in New York. He holds an MFA in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design. Mani works as a software engineer at New York-based startup Architizer. In his art practice, he examines the notions of place, memory through motion and interactivity.
