Item Locator Service

Overview

The Item Locator Service is a project in the early stages of development intended to help library catalog users locate physical items. Originally conceived as a stacks map system, similar to efforts at other universities, the project team has since recognized the opportunity to provide more targeted directional information as the item type dictates. The system supports a number of outputs:

  • For items located in open shelving, a map will display what floor and section of the stacks the item is located.
  • For items located in at branch libraries, directions, hours, and contact information will be displayed.
  • For items requiring staff asssistance, appropriate directions will be displayed.
