Research Assistance

Chat online with a librarian on the Ask Us page; or you can call, text, or email the library staff.

We are happy to assist users in finding materials and operating the various technologies and equipment available in the library. 

If you need extensive assistance in locating resources or using the Assistive Technologies Center, please allow ample time in advance of a deadline, and call ahead for an appointment with a staff member at (919) 515-2935.

Book Retrieval

Staff at the Main Circulation Desk in the D. H. Hill Library or at the Ask Us center in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library are happy to retrieve materials directly from the shelves.

Please submit a call number with your retrieval request.  For help with identifiying call numbers, ask at any service point, or call (919) 515-2935.

All materials, except those retrieved for photocopy requests, will be held for pick-up at the main Circulation Desk in D. H. Hill or the Ask Us center in the Hunt Library.

If the book or article you need is not available at NC State, please place a request through Interlibrary and Document Delivery Services.

Retrieval Times

During regular weekday hours, materials normally will be retrieved within two hours of the request.

During evenings and on weekends, materials normally will be retrieved by the next business day.

Retrieval times may be longer when staff is not available.

Reserves

Course reserves materials may be used in the Assistive Technologies Center.

Electronic reserves items created by library staff are text-searchable PDF files, designed for use with screen-reading software.

Networked access is limited to authenticated NC State University users.

Photocopy Services

To request photocopies of articles through Interlibrary and Document Delivery Services, submit a request online or call the Interlibrary Loan Office at (919) 515-2116 during business hours.

The staff will provide copies at the self-service rate.

Pick up and pay for your articles at the main circulation desk in the D. H. Hill Library or at the Ask Us center at the Hunt Library.

Please allow time in advance of a deadline when making use of this service.

Photocopiers are available to library patrons in the Learning Commons and the Print, Copy, Scan room at D. H. Hill, or at any printing location on floors 2-5 in the Hunt Library.
