NCCS Data Web Sample Search 2

Create a Sampling Frame for research, for this example, targeting those organizations that served an Hispanic audience between 1998 and 2003.*

  1. Enter the NCCS Data Web. Click to accept the User Agreement.
  2. Choose your subset database, for this example, NCCS Master - NPC Codes 2005.  The screen will load with all of the organizations for which NPC codes were assigned.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen. In the Filter box, enter the following text:  NPC_BEN like '+r74'. It doesn't matter if you use caps or not, but it does matter that you use single quotation marks (') not double (") and it does matter that you include the plus sign.
  4. Click on the Apply Filter button at the very bottom of the window (NOT the Add a Filter Condition button at the bottom of the Filter box).  The database will return just the 733 results with the +R74 beneficiary code.

If you didn't already know that +R74 was the correct code, you could use the lookup tool linked from the main NCCS resource page under the Helpful NCCS Tools heading. Using the Add a Filter Condition wizard is NOT recommended for NPS codes because you would have to scroll through all of the codes starting from either A or Z.

*The date on the NPC Master subset is the last time it was updated, not the years it includes.

Note: This is only one of several ways to identify organizations that serve Hispanic audiences. The main purpose of this example is to show how to use NPC codes.
