From the web site: "Three-quarters or more of data about biodiversity are stored in the developed world. However, most of the data that may be needed can't be transferred because either they are not digitised, or capacity to handle digital information is lacking, or both." The GBIF's mission is to
facilitate digitisation and global dissemination of primary biodiversity data, so that people from all countries can benefit from the use of the information.
The Data Web is a national repository of data on the entire U.S. nonprofit sector, based primarily on information submitted by the organizations themselves on their tax forms. Users can create reports, do some statistical analyses online, and extract data for downloading in a variety of software formats including dBase, Microsoft Excel, SAS, and SPSS.
