Library Services for Genomics, Proteomics, and Bioinformatics
The NCSU Libraries offers a wide
array of services for research and instruction.
Some services that are likely to be useful for research
and teaching in genomics and proteomics include:
- Consultation with subject
specialist librarians who can:
- Identify appropriate information sources, and introduce researchers
to new features in existing tools and new research tools.
- Set up regular alerts to assist researchers in keeping up with the
literature. Alerts are of two kinds:
- Saved searches in a database (e.g., Web
of Science, Biological Abstracts, PubMed, etc.) that
are run each week or month and any new results are emailed.
- Table of Contents (TOC) alerts are set up for individual journals
and an email with the TOC is sent when each issue is published. If
the journal is online, hyperlinks in the email will open the individual
article.
- Provide support and instruction for graduate students, postdocs, and
research groups.
- Consult with graduate students to direct them to
the databases and other resources most suitable for their
research.
- Orient new postdocs and visiting researchers
to the Libraries' services and resources.
- Visit laboratory
or other research teams and groups to present new resources,
instruct students and staff in the use of databases and other resources.
- SearchAssist is
a literature search service designed to support university research; SearchAssist
enhances the research process with convenient, personalized, expert database
searching by Subject Specialist librarians.
- Instruction Librarians
can provide instruction or instructional support for students and their instructors.
- General Reference Services
- Reference Desk--For immediate
assistance while doing research at D. H. Hill Library, visit the Reference
Desk on the first floor. See library
