The two indexes listed below will provide the most comprehensive
indexing focusing on historical and area studies journals.
Historical Abstracts
Index to scholarly journal articles in history journals covering the
time period 1450 to the present, and focusing on regions outside the
U.S. and Canada. Index goes back to 1969.
Bibliography
of Asian Studies
Indexes primarily western-language articles and book chapters on all
parts of Asia published since 1971.
The following indexes are broader in scope, but will include some
information on Japanese history.
Readers' Guide Retrospective
Index to the most popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States reflecting the history of 20th century America. Current coverage includes the years 1890 through 1982.
Humanities
Full Text
Index to all scholarly journal articles in humanities subject areas, including historical time periods
before 1450. Index goes back to 1982.
Web
of Science
Allows for combined searching of Arts and Humanities Citation Index as well
as Social Science Citation Index. In addition to the general search capability,
which allows for keyword searching of articles by topic, you can also use the
cited reference search feature to locate articles that cited an article of interest.
JSTOR
Full text archive of selected academic journals. For included journals,
most go back to the earliest issues published. Allows for keyword
searching across all included journals in a discipline.
Many topics may be interdisciplinary, and thus benefit from indexes
in other subject areas. To find indexes covering different subject
areas, use the Database
Finder, which allows you to identify indexes in broad subject
categories.
