Finding Journal Articles

To find articles in scholarly journals, start by searching a database that indexes scholarly materials in a particular field of study. For this class, consider exploring articles in the fields of literature, history, and religion. Use these databases to search for you topic in order to find citations to articles.

MLA International Bibliography
Index to journal articles in literature journals. This is the database that will likely be the most useful for this class.

Tip for searching for personal names that include de in MLA:

The database has a bug that prevents successful searching in the Basic Search block for names such as Bernardo de Balbuena, that is, names which have 'de' as part of the name. For these names, you need to enclose the whole name in quotes. For example, type:

"bernardo de balbuena"

Historical Abstracts
Index to scholarly journal articles in history journals covering the time period 1450 to the present, and focusing on regions outside the U.S. and Canada. Good for locating research on the early modern period in Europe.

Humanities Full Text
Index to all humanities subject areas, including historical time periods before 1450.
