BUS 530: Managing People in the High Tech Environment
Industry Information
Looking at industry information can help us understand much about particular
companies and how and why they operate in the way they do. Comparing the company, product, or a service to the industry standard/norm can help you determine if a company or other categories are successful. By seeing what the industry is projecting, you can also project the outlook and the trends of a company or a product or service.
It may be tricky looking for that particular industry that your company,
product or service falls into--each database or vendor has their own list,as
well as does the government. You may need to try several. Some companies fall
into several categories. Semiconductors, for example, fall into "electrical
components" and "computers" in
some sources, depending on what you are looking for. The key is to keep trying
-- look for subject terms in the articles you read and/or try related synonyms
when searching.
