Internet Resources

There are a great number of sites on the Internet with legal information in addition to the LexisNexis product cited above. In general, it's best to start an Internet hunt with compilations of sources rather than throwing a term into an Internet search engine. They aren't very sophisticated, and return lots of unrelated sources.

THOMAS - U.S. Congress on the Internet
"In the spirit of Thomas Jefferson, a service of the Library of Congress" with legislative information on the Internet. Thomas provides access to the full texts of most of the documents created during the legislative process: bills, reports, Congressional Record, public laws. Dates of coverage vary between files; some go as far back as 1973-74, the 93th Congress.

GPO ACCESS
A service of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) that offers online access to a variety of official Federal government information. The service provides many databases covering subject areas such as Federal legislation, laws and regulations, the U.S. Congress and official reports and documents. The databases are updated frequently.

LexisNexis Congressional
Provides access to a full range of legislative and public policy resources, including: hearing transcripts and submitted testimony, committee reports, bills, public laws, selected committee prints, congressional documents, the Congressional Record, the Federal Register, the current Code of Federal Regulations, and the current U.S. Code.

USA.gov
This page has links to federal department and agency websites.
USA.gov is billed as the "U.S. government's official web portal."

North Carolina General Assembly
The site includes House and Senate membership lists, Documents, Bill information, Geography and Representation, Statutes, additional NC information, Latest staff reports, and a link to the site of last year's session.

Institute of Government, UNC-CH
This site provides access to the resources of the Institute of Government, the largest and most diversified of the university-based governmental training and research organizations in the United States. ...
