SUPERFUND PROGRAM

Committee on Energy and Commerce: Subcommittee on Commerce, Transportation and
Tourism held a hearing on the funding mechanism for the Superfund program. 
Testimony was heard from Representatives Schneider, and Wyden; Robert Abrams,

SYNTHETIC FUELS CORPORATION

Committee on Energy and Commerce: Subcommittee on Fossil and Synthetic Fuels
Corporation's future plans.  Testimony was heard from Representatives Wolpe,

HUMAN RIGHTS IN ALBANIA

Committee on Foreign Affairs: Subcommittee on Human Rights and International
Organizations held a hearing on Human Rights in Albania.  Testimony was heard
from Chris Spirou, Minority Leader, House of Representatives, State of New
Hampshire.

OVERSIGHT

Committee on Foreign Affairs: Subcommittee on International Operations and the
Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs held a joint oversight hearing on
the Inter-American Foundation.  Testimony was heard from the following members
of the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Foundation: Langhorne A.
Motley, Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs; M. Peter
McPherson, Administrator, AID; and J. William Middendorf, II, Permanent

Committee on Rules: Granted an open rule providing one hour of debate on H.J.
Res. 203, to establish State commissions on teacher excellence.  Testimony was

EARTHQUAKE HAZARDS REDUCTION ACT AND FEDERAL FIRE PREVENTION AND CONTROL ACT
AUTHORIZATION

Committee on Rules: Granted an open rule providing one hour of debate on H.R.
2465, to authorize appropriations for the Earthquake Hazards Reduction Act of
1977 and the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 for the fiscal
year 1984 and fiscal year 1985.  Testimony was heard from Representatives
Walgren and Gregg.

SBA CONTRACT

Committee on Small Business: Subcommittee on General Oversight and the Economy
held a hearing to investigate abuses and mismanagement in major SBA Contract.

FEDERAL RESERVE ACT AMENDMENTS

Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs: Subcommittee on Domestic
Monetary Policy held a hearing on H.R. 2566, to amend the Federal Reserve Act
to provide for increased representation of small business interests and
agricultural interests on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve
System. Testimony was heard from Representatives Patman, Mavroules, Harkin,
Synar, Dorgan, Bedell, Evans of Illinois, Frank, Stenholm, Kogovsek, Daschle,
McCloskey, Thomas of Georgia, and Wise.

INDUSTRIAL COMPETITIVENESS

Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs: Subcommittee on Economic
Stabilization held a hearing on H.R. 4360, to improve the industrial

TIED AID (MIXED) CREDIT PROGRAM

Committee on Foreign Affairs: Subcommittee on International Economic Policy
and Trade held an oversight hearing of the Tied Aid (Mixed) Credit Program. 
Testimony was heard from John Lange, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for
International Trade, Department of the Treasury; Warren Glick, General

SITUATION IN EL SALVADOR

Committee on Foreign Affairs: Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs and

hearing on the Situation in El Salvador.  Testimony was heard from the

PUERTO RICO TRANSPORTATION

Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries: Subcommittee on Merchant Marine
approved for full Committee action H.R. 89, to permit the transportation of
passengers between Puerto Rico and other U.S. ports on foreign-flag vessels
when U.S.-flag service for such transportation is not available.

STATE OF THE ELDERLY HEALTH CARE COST

ARMS CONTROL NEGOTIATIONS

Committee on Armed Services: Met in executive session to hold a hearing on the
status of arms control negotiations and related matters.  Testimony was heard
from Kenneth L. Adelman, Director, Arms Control and Disarmament Agency;

Practices Act and on H.R. 4617, to amend the Fair Debt Collection Practices
Act to provide that any attorney who collects debts on behalf of a client

the following resolutions: H. Con. Res. 216, disapproving the Prohibition of
the Investment of Public Funds in Financial Institutions and Companies Making
Loans to or Doing Business with the Republic of South Africa or Namibia Act of
1983 passed by the City Council of the District of Columbia; and H. Res. 372,
disapproving the action of the District of Columbia Council in approving the
Prohibition of the Investment of Public Funds in Financial Institutions and
Companies Making Loans to or Doing Business with the Republic of South Africa
or Namibia Act of 1983.

Prior to this action, the Subcommittee held a hearing on the resolutions.

United Nations.
