Committee on Energy and Commerce: Subcommittee on Commerce, Transportation,
and Tourism held a hearing on H.R. 1646, to amend the Railroad Retirement Act
of 1974 and the Railroad Retirement Tax Act to assure sufficient resources to
pay current and future benefits under the Railroad Retirement Act of 1974, to
make technical changes. Testimony was heard from David A. Stockman, Director,

INDIAN POINT POWER STATION

Committee on Energy and Commerce: Subcommittee on Energy Conservation and
Power held a hearing regarding the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's procedure
for the conduct of an inquiry into the safety of the Indian Point Power
Station. Testimony was heard from John Dyson, Chairman, Power Authority, State
of New York.

SUBPENAS

Committee on Energy and Commerce: Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations
met in executive session and voted to issue ten additional subpenas concerning
the EPA investigation and also voted to send a letter to the President
regarding the investigation.

EXPORT ADMINISTRATION ACT EXTENSION AND REVISION

Committee on Foreign Affairs: Subcommittee on International Economic Policy
and Trade and the Subcommittee on Trade of the Committee on Ways and Means
held a joint hearing on extension and revision of the Export Administration
Act of 1979: Implementation and Enforcement of National Security Controls.

Committee on Veterans' Affairs: Held a hearing on the legislative programs of
the Paralyzed Veterans Association, Veterans of World War I, Military Order of
the Purple Heart, and Regular Veterans Association. Testimony was heard from
representatives of the veterans' organizations.

PAYMENT IN KIND PROGRAM; SOCIAL SECURITY AMENDMENTS

Committee on Ways and Means: Ordered reported as amended H.R. 1296, to amend
the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 to allow any taxpayer to elect to treat for
income tax purposes any crop received under a Federal program for removing
land from agricultural production as produced by the taxpayer, to allow any
taxpayer to elect to defer income on any cancellation under such a program of
any price support loan, and to provide that participation in such a program
shall not disqualify the taxpayer for the special use valuation of farm real
property under section 2032A of such Code.

The Committee also began markup of the Social Security Act Amendments of 1983.
