NCSU Libraries' Subject Teams

There are currently three subject teams: Agriculture and Life Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Physical and Engineering Sciences. Each is composed of Collection Managers for relevant subjects, Research and Information Services Librarians for relevant subjects, Branch Librarians, Library Fellows, and others as designated by a coordinating group. The subject teams have evolved in the last five years to fill an important role in both the day-to-day and medium-range planning of the Collection Management department. They have also played a vital role in the communication between the librarians in both Collection Management and the Research and Information Services Department. Because of their interdepartmental composition, the work of these teams has become a critical piece in the development and management of the Libraries' electronic collections and in outreach.

The functions of the teams are:

1. Collaborative Collecting and Review
1. Electronic and print materials
2. Work between the subject teams, branches and satellite shelving
2. Outreach
1. Faculty, Staff, Students, Library Staff
3. Policy and Procedures
1. Establish procedures
2. Drafting of policies
3. Discussion of issues related to collections and outreach
4. Facilitate access to materials
1. Distance/remote access
2. Organization and finding of resources
3. MyLibrary, OCLC Connexion
5. Communication
1. Internal communication between departments
2. External communications, library-wide and university wide
