Collections and Journals review 2009
Collections and Journals Review Process (tentative)
Timeline
The Timeline sets out each stage of the process
and their deadlines.
List of Titles
In mid-February, Departmental Library Representatives will receive a list of
all print and electronic serial subscriptions that NCSU Libraries subscribes
to. The lists will also be available for access by
title and by subject . In addition
to titles, publishers and cost, faculty will also be able to see Impact Factor,
electronic usage downloads, and how much NCSU faculty has cited or been published
in titles over the past 5 years. Go to Factors
to Consider to learn more details about these data points.
Note that this is a comprehensive review of ALL our subscriptions; the
lists contain many more titles than we will need to cancel.
Review
Departmental Library Representatives should distribute the information to their
departments and encourage their colleagues to provide feedback to the Libraries
about which titles should be kept. Faculty will have 4 weeks to review the
lists.
Feedback
Faculty should provide feedback about the titles they want retained. Feedback
can be sent via email to any of the contacts listed
here. At any time during the review process feel free to contact the
Libraries with questions. Librarians will also be happy to visit departments
to talk further about the process and answer your questions.
Proposed Cancellation List
The Collection Management Department will compile the feedback received. Taking
into consideration faculty needs, campus-wide research, usage, cost, citations
and collections budget, a list of proposed titles for cancellation will be
drafted.
The list will be distributed for review via the same channels as the initial
review lists. Faculty are encouraged to provide feedback including their concerns
to any of these contacts.
Final cancellations
By July 1st, the Libraries will have a final list of titles to submit for cancellation
