Self-Service Check out Stations
Two 3M Self-Check machines are located in the D.H. Hill Library, at the main Circulation Desk (1st floor) and at the Express Desk (Ground floor).
Borrowers who have an All-Campus NCSU photo ID or an NCSU Borrower Permit ("811" card), can check out and renew barcoded materials at these stations.
The self-service check out stations "reads" the magnetic stripe on the back of your borrower's card. A scanner then "reads" the barcode of the book(s) to charge or renew. The self-service station will not access a patron account if the borrower's record
is blocked due to fines, overdue books, or an expired card.
In these cases you will need to go to the main Circulation Desk for assistance.
If your borrower's card is defective or damaged, it should be replaced. You can get a new University ID at the All Campus Card Office in the West Dunn Building. A new "811" card may be obtained at the main Circulation Desk in the D. H. Hill Library.
If the book does not have a barcode on the inside front cover, it must be checked out at one of our Circulation Desks. Branch library materials can be renewed on the self-service unit, saving you a trip back to the branch. During a transaction, the mach
ine will let you know if you owe any fines.
How to Use the Self-Service Check out Stations
- Slide your card into the reader on the left side of the unit. Leave it there until the transaction is complete.
- Open the book to the front inside cover and slide it along the bottom shelf of the unit, left to right. When the barcode is directly beneath the scanner on the right side of the unit, leave it there until the charge is verified. Repeat for each book
.
- When finished, remove your card from the reader. A receipt will be printed, giving the due date of the book(s).
- Save your receipt. You are responsible for knowing the due date. We suggest that you write the due date on the date due slip inside the book(s).
Don't forget to take your card when you leave the station.
