Routing materials to the Special Collections Research Center
Special Collections materials are acquired in a variety of different ways. Often, material held by a branch
or in the DH Hill Stacks is transferred to the Special Collections Research Center for its relevance to that collection
or its value as a rare book. This process is called routing, and books that are transferred are indicated in the catalog
as "IN TRANSIT" until the book can be fully cataloged by Special Collections catalogers. This document outlines a manual
routing process for SCRC materials, and is not the same as the routing status that is automatically generated when materials
from one branch are discharged at another branch. In the SCRC process, the IN PROCESS location is manually added to the
"home location" of the call number record and this must be manually changed to its permanent location at the end of the
procedure.
From the Unicorn volume/call number record, change:
- Library to SPECCOLL
- Type to BOOKNOCIRC
- Home location to INTRANSIT
- Make sure that the "Circulate" box is toggled on (checked).
