Added entry access to discrete special and virtual collections
Individual collections within the Special Collections Research Center
All discrete collections will be provided with access through the 710 field. See specific collections for usage examples and policies and procedures for those collections. Collections falling under this policy will be decided upon by the Rare Books Curator and the Head, Monographs Section in Metadata & Cataloging. All new collections will be added to the policy statement under the "Collection-specific procedures" heading.

Virtual collections wholly or partially outside of the Special Collections Research Center
Because of space constraints within SCRC and the nature of the materials comprising some collections, primarily gifts, the Libraries may from time to time establish "virtual collections" which are brought together only through the catalog even while being physically dispersed throughout the collection. These virtual collections may be established by staff in the Special Collections Research Center or by the NCSU Libraries administration and will use the 710 as their means of identification in the same way as the individual collections named above.
