General Guidelines for Fixing Acquisitions/Bibliographic Record Links
- There are 3 order types in Unicorn:
- Basic: Firm and Approval
- Recurring: Standing and Blanket
- Dated: Subscription or Membership
- Please relink only FIRM or APPROVAL order types that have already been received
- If you are dealing with a Recurring (Standing or Blanket) or a Dated (Subscription or Member), please route the item to the Serials Acquisitions unit.
- There are a variety of errors that may come upstairs. This could include "misbarcoding" where the barcode is attached to the wrong record. If you can make a reasonable guess as to how these items got crossed, it is fine to reattach the correct item record to the piece at hand. Many times the order record to bibliographic record link is correct. **Of course, if you are not sure what to do, please mark the item to go back to Serials Acquisitions and place it on the problem truck.
Tips on Identifying a Recurring or Dated order
- These are "serial" order types and must be attached to a volume record. You can recognize the volume records to which recurring orders are attached because they are generally the first call no./vol. record and SHOULD have either
- a DBCN call number (for orders migrated from DRA), or,
- an ACQSER XX call number (for born-SIRSI orders)
- Note: Both of these volume records will be masked. DO NOT replace either of these call numbers with a new (LC) call number.
- If there is not a call no. of either of the above types on the record, and you believe there is an active order record on the title, please route the item to the Serials Acquisitions unit.
- Verify the order type using the modify order wizard:

- To view order type:
- Bring up the bib record for the title using Modify Existing Title in the cataloging module.
- Bring up the Modify Order wizard. Click ok to accept the defaults. Then click on current title, and click ok. (If you need to look up a title that is not the current one, you will need to reset the fiscal cycle. The fiscal cycle will default to 2002. Change this value to ALL.)
- Select the correct title from the list (if more than one) and click the modify orderline button. Then click on the ORDER tab, and you will be able to see the order type.

- If you choose the "current title" button and no order is displayed, this means that the order you are looking for is attached to a different bib record.
