Cataloging English-Language Juvenile Materials for the College of Education Media Center
- Per the Assistant Director, College of Education Media Center (CoEMC), all materials should be classed in the appropriate PZ number. This practice will be followed for CoEMC even in the event that an existing record for another copy bears a non-PZ call number. The call numbers for copies at other locations besides LRL need not be changed.
- If a date is missing from the call number, make a quick decision as to which date to choose. If you are unsure of which date to use, please ask the Interim Department Head.
- Per the Assistant Director of the College of Education Media Center, AC headings (Annotated Children's Headings, 650 -1) may be accepted. It is not necessary that records contain LC subject headings (650 -0). Do not delete existing LCSH headings.
- Please devote minimal time to verification of these records. Accept descriptive and subject data as is whenever possible.
- Awards notes: we will be using the 586 field to note award books. We will add notes for the following awards, in the form as given below:
Newbery Medal book, 2002
Newbery Honor book, 1998 (often there is more than one Honor book per year)
Caldecott Medal book, 2006
Caldecott Honor book, 1988
Theodore Seuss Geisel Award book, 2006
Michael L. Printz Award book, 2005
Michael L. Printz Honor book, 2000
Coretta Scott King Author Award book, 2000
Coretta Scott King Author Honor book, 2002
Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award book, 2004
Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor book, 2001
National Book Award for Young People's Literature book, 1981
North Carolina Children's Book Award Picture Book Award book, 1998
North Carolina Children's Book Award Junior Book Award book, 1998

- Laura Ingalls Wilder Award: LRL would like us to keep track of this award also. This award is given for lifetime achievement, however, so a note must be added to the records for all works for winning authors or illustrators that LRL holds. Each record must contain a 586 in the following format: Laura Ingalls Wilder Award year.
- An attempt will be made to keep links to and/or lists of all books for each award category current and available on our website.
- Physical processing: Please retain the dust jackets for all juvenile books for LRL. Marking will need to create two spine labels, one for the dust jacket and one to place on the book itself.
