Catalog & Repository Data Problems
Department Head: Erin Stalberg
Associate Department Head: [vacant]
To contribute to the NCSU Libraries' mission, vision, and values, the Metadata and
Cataloging Department provides effective, accurate tools that assist our
clients in locating information resources of value to them, either locally
or remotely through the Internet. We organize and maintain these information
resources in all formats and process them in a timely manner. To accomplish
our goals, we:
- Catalog materials for D.H. Hill library, branch libraries, affiliated libraries,
and working collections. These materials include new receipts (whether a purchase, gift
or exchange), all NCSU theses and dissertations, and North Carolina State documents.
- Catalog special materials and collections outside the scope of routine receipts.
- Catalog electronic journals and texts available remotely via the Internet.
- Maintain accurate records for the Libraries' catalogs and other databases.
- Design, implement and coordinate an ongoing training program for department members
and provide appropriate instruction for other Libraries' employees.
- Conduct research and development activities to aid the departmental mission.
- Provide cataloging and management support for metadata projects throughout the Libraries.
- Provide a feedback mechanism for cataloging problems from any area of the Libraries
as well as from the public.
