Improved Catalog Search Interface!
New Catalog Keyword Searching
The Libraries is introducing a new guided navigation system to improve access
to the collection. This approach facilitates browsing within your catalog search
results. Here is a sample results screen:

Other new features include:
Entering Searches
The system automatically searches for all the words that you enter. No need to use AND, OR, or NOT. (If you need to do a Boolean search, go to the Advanced Search tab).
Relevance Ranking
This is now the default sort option.
How relevance ranking works
Spelling Help
Spell correction and 'Did you mean' suggestions improve search results.

Stemming/Truncation
The catalog automatically searches for the plural forms of nouns. No need to enter a truncation symbol.
Sorting by 'Most Popular'
This option sorts results based on the number of times that they have been checked out at NCSU Libraries. Titles that have been checked out the most will be listed first.
There are also two new search interfaces for the catalog:
Advanced Search
The Advanced Search tab allows you to limit your searches in a number of ways.
For example, you can use limits to search for your terms within reference
books only. You can also enter a Boolean search from this screen.
Call Number Browse
The Browse tab allows you to browse (and focus) our collection within a call
number range. For example, you can choose a call number area, then look for
the videos and DVDs within your results.
What happened to the old system?
The previous keyword search system has been retired. You can still search using
Subject, Author, or Title headings (as well as call numbers and government documents
numbers) by using the Search begins with ... box on the main Search tab.
