Overview
This workshop has been designed for undergraduate students taking courses in business and management. It introduces students to three types of resources commonly used in researching business topics: industry, company, and consumer market information.
Background
This one-hour workshop was originally developed for undergraduate students taking entrepreneruship courses. These sessions are usually held twice each spring and fall semester, in the ITTC Labs at DH Hill Library, using a mix of hands-on practice and an active discussion led by the business librarian.
What can I do with this page?
The materials provided below may be used for self-study, or incorporated as a class assignment in any course at NC State where students will benefit from a brief introduction to business research. You may also request an answer key to the worksheet exercises by email.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the workshop students will
- have a sense of what industry reports look like and how industry classifications are used in research;
- have practiced using an online directory for creating company lists based on selective criteria;
- and have explored sources of information on demographic and lifestyle trends.
