1990

Rebecca Leonard was appointed assistant provost and assistant dean for Undergraduate Studies.

The first campus wide newsletter on women's issues, The Newsstand, was published.


1991

The Women's Center opened at NC State with Jan Rogers as its coordinator. She began the Women's Leadership Education and Action Program (LEAP), which aimed to enhance the experience of women in nontraditional fields such as math, science, and engineering.

The Campus Child Care Center opened.

Edith D. Sylla (History) received an award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of its visiting professorship for women programs. The award was one of twenty-five visiting professorships for outstanding women scientists and engineers throughout the country.


1992

The Sista 2 Sistuh Network was established by a group of African American women. It was formed to support African American women at NC State.


1993

Leslie Dare became the first sexual harassment prevention officer at NC State.



1995

Margaret Zahn

Margaret A. Zahn, nationally known for her studies on violence in the United States, became dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, August 7, 1995.

1996


NC State women's basketball coach Kay Yow celebrated her 500th win on January 15. The Wolfpack beat the Lady Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University, 68 to 63.

Katherine Stinson, the first woman to graduate from the NC State's School of Engineering, had a street named after her. Katharine Stinson Drive, formerly North Yarbrough Drive, is one of the longest streets on campus.

1998

Marye Anne Fox became the first female chancellor of NC State University.
