Getting Started with the NC State AgNIC Systematic Entomology Site

Welcome to the NC State AgNIC Systematic Entomology Site! There are several ways to access resources in this site:

  • categorical index: all resources are accessible on the front page by the general category they fall under, such as identification keys
  • taxonomic index: resources are also listed through the Taxonomic Index of Resources by the taxonomic group they fall under, such as Coleoptera, or by common name, such as silverfish
  • drop down index: the drop down menus at the top of most pages let you go directly to resources by scientific and common name
  • search: resources can also be found using a keyword search

If you are new to Systematic Entomology, you should start with About Systematic Entomology. You might want to also visit the Tree of Life, a classification of all life on this planet and the Clemson University Museum for a tour of a virtual insect museum.

Next, or if you are familiar with Systematic Entomology, visit the Taxonomic Index of Resources. The Taxonomic Index gives you a feel of the diversity within insects. Once you select an order of insects, you can see a list of all recognized families within that order.
