Library Special CollectionsA primary collecting initiative of the Special Collections Department is the establishment of a history of science archive which documents the scientific research process in both educational and commercial settings through the acquisition of primary and secondary research materials for selected subdisciplines. These subdisciplines include the physical and life sciences, forestry, science education, agriculture and agribusiness, and scientific instruments, especially 19th and 20th century instrumentation. Archives and Manuscript collections place particular emphasis on chronicling the research process in the electronic age. Existing history of science collection strengths are in entomology, forestry and agriculture. The science collections include personal papers, correspondence, research files, departmental records, organizational records, photographs, and rare books.
