Association of Research Libraries Comparative Library Statistics, 1982/83-1999/2000
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is composed of the top 122
U.S. and Canadian research libraries. The NCSU Libraries has been a member
since 1982/83.
Attached are statistics showing the NCSU Libraries' status on various measures,
as compared with the other 112 ARL university libraries (i.e., excluding
non-academic, independent research libraries such as the Center for Research
Libraries). They cover:
I. Ranking of the NCSU Libraries in Selected Categories among ARL University
Libraries
- 1985/86-1999/2000
- 1982/83-1984/85
II. Library Expenditures as Percentage of University Educational and General
Expenditures
III. ARL Membership Criteria Index
To be invited to join ARL, as well as to retain membership, libraries must
reach and maintain quantitative requirements based on a membership criteria
index. Up through 1985/86, ARL calculated the membership criteria index using
ten variables. In 1985/86 and thereafter, ARL has used a five-variable index.
