ASSOCIATION OF RESEARCH LIBRARIES COMPARATIVE LIBRARY STATISTICS, 1982/83-1998/99
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is composed of the top 121 U.S. and Canadian research libraries. The NCSU Libraries has been a member since 1982/83.
Attached are statistics showing the NCSU Libraries' status on various measures, as compared with the other 111 ARL university libraries (i.e., excluding non-academic, independent research libraries such as the Center for Research Libraries). They cover:

To be invited to join ARL, as well as to retain membership, libraries must reach and maintain quantitative requirements based on a membership criteria index. Up through 1985/86, ARL calculated the membership criteria index using ten variables. In 1985/86 and thereafter, ARL has used a five-variable index. The documents attached show:
